Whole Body Cryotherapy FAQs

Here are some of our clients’ most commonly asked questions about Whole Body Cryotherapy, but if you would like to know more, just click here to contact one of our specialists!

WBC doesn’t hurt, although the exposure to the cold is often a strange sensation during your first cryotherapy session. It is cold, but should never be painful. Temperatures reach down to -220°F.

No, while in the chamber you will only be wearing the socks, slippers and gloves that we provide, and men also wear briefs. This allows for 90% of your skin to be exposed to the hyper-cool air. It’s fine to leave your hair down and have on face lotion or makeup – we just ask that you do not apply lotion or any moisture to your skin for one hour before the session. Also, no jewelry or other metals can be worn below the neck.
The first appointment can take anywhere between 15-20 minutes. We like to fully educate our clients and help with any questions you may have. After the first appointment, sessions typically take 5-7 minutes total, including the 3 minutes you spend in the chamber.
Because the effects of cryotherapy are different for every client, it will depend entirely on how your body reacts to the session. Typically, most clients feel an increase of energy and flexibility within the first few minutes or hours, but some clients will feel the first impact the next morning after a sleep cycle.
No, there is nothing you have to avoid and nothing you should do after your session. Exposure to extreme cold temperatures actually warms the muscle tissue. This allows our clients to continue their normal tasks throughout the day, typically with more energy.
No, unless conducted by an untrained technician, or if you have a contraindication. The cooling agent, nitrogen, is in 78% of the air we breathe every day. The certified technicians running your sessions at Chill Zone Cryo are fully trained on safety and operational protocols, and are capable of stopping the session if you should want to get out before your time is up. Likewise, there is no lock on the chamber door, so you can step out at any time. Lastly, the chamber has a 3-minute auto shut off timer.
We use nitrogen to cool it to -220°F. It is transformed into hyper-cool air, which is what cools the chamber and allows it to get into the ultra-low “cryo temperatures.”
Yes, it is. The length of the session maxes at 3 minutes, and our cryo chamber has a 3-minute auto shut-off timer. This short period of time does not allow your body to reach hypothermia.
This is very dependent on why you are using the treatment. Most clients who use it for overall health and wellness receive a session 1-2 times a week. Clients who have an injury, inflammation, and/or aches and pains often receive cryotherapy sessions 2-4 times a week.
If you notice you are not seeing the same results as when you first started to do cryotherapy sessions, we recommend taking 1 week off and then starting over with 1-3 sessions a week. Your body will never become completely used to the effects of extreme cold exposure but the results may seem less intense with prolonged use.
Our facility prohibits the use of cryotherapy by anyone under the age of 14. In addition, the client cannot have high blood pressure, may not currently have or previously have had seizures, must not have a severe case of Raynaud’s syndrome, be pregnant, have any existing heart issue, have any major vascular issues, have clots or have had a brain aneurysm, have any severe reaction to cold, or have had a stroke. Other contraindications may exist, which is why each client must fully read and sign our waiver.
No, we do not accept insurance policies. You can always ask your insurance provider if they can reimburse you, but we do not accept insurance for payment. Many of our clients do use their health savings account cards, just like a credit card.
Memberships allow access to multiple recovery modalities and represent a greater value over single and multisession package pricing. (Please refer to the Session and Membership sheet.) More importantly, the membership model produces the best outcomes, regardless of your reason for seeking recovery. In an average month with multiple modalities available to you, we are confident you will see superior results when compared with single sessions or even a package of sessions. All membership levels include access to two or more modalities, plus additional discounts. The 25, 50 and 100 packs can be shared among multiple persons, but memberships can only be purchased under one person’s name.
